Karmela holds decades of international business and high-profile NGO experience. As a senior leader in Croatia’s wine industry, Karmela is board member and director of marketing and exports at Croatia’s first purpose-built and most iconic winery, Ilok Cellars. Her expertise in the wine sector has ensured the elevation of the brand globally, in markets covering North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Karmela directs strategic and operational aspects including production, marketing, creative services, tourism and hospitality, logistics and finance. In addition to the private sector, Karmela holds high-level leadership in NGOs, including Croatia’s first national wine industry association, demonstrating an understanding of leadership in the NGO sector and EU project delivery.

Why Karmela founded DNA:

“Through decades of working experience, I was one of the pioneers in creating the national strategy to put Croatia on the global wine map as a reputable source of distinctive, high quality wines, standing out from New World wines on heritage, from Old World on simplicity, from other emergent wine sources on accessibility.

Born and raised in Germany, long time living on both addresses, traveling around the globe also prior to and especially while becoming a wine trade marketing and export professional, I chose to work, live found my family and raise my children in Croatia. I knew that Croatia’s natural riches and wealth of destinations, it’s ancient heritage and future vision, it’s multi-cultural origins and originality are the strongest building blocks of my and theirs identity. Through and with the DNA Croatia team, we can and want to embody those values to evoke a new brand of Croatian enterprise, harnessing indigenous strengths within to compete on the world stage, and herald a new identity by becoming #1 digital nomad destination.”
